SYBASE LICENSE TYPES:   The License Type is used to determine how a product is licensed and priced.  The following License Types are currently available through eShop:  CP, DT, SF, CH, DH, SH, SR, SV, ST, CU SC, SS, FL, OT.  For a more detailed explanation of each License Type, go to License Definitions.  If you require other license types, please contact your Sales Representative or Sybase Customer Service at 800-8-SYBASE.

SYBASE LICENSING MODELS:  Sybase license models available through eShop include the CPU License Model, Chip License Model, Networked Server/Seat Model and Concurrent Server/User Model.  In addition, eShop offers the Standalone and Floating License Types.

CPU License Model (machine-based):  Licenses the entire machine for internal and external users.

• CPU License (CP):
  
  • All the processors/cores (Sybase, Inc) or chips (iAnywhere) on the machine must be licensed (unless the machine is hard partitioned) as per the Multi-Core Policy below.
  
  
  • Requires that all physical processors/cores in the machine be licensed.
  • Licenses both internal and external (Internet) users.
  • The number of users is limited only by the capacity of the licensed processors/cores for Sybase, Inc products, or chips for iAnywhere products.
• CPU Development & Test (DT) License:
  
  • All the processors/cores (Sybase, Inc) or chips (iAnywhere) on the machine must be licensed as per the multi-core policy below.
  • This license is for customers running their servers on non-production systems.
  
  
• CPU Standby (SF) License:
  
  • All the processors/cores (Sybase, Inc) or chips (iAnywhere) on the machine must be licensed (unless the machine is hard partitioned) as per the multi-core policy below.
  • Provides the limited right to access and use a Standby Copy of a Program licensed under a CPU License (CP) in the event of an interruption of a production copy of the same Program.
• CPU Model - Multi-core Licensing:
  
  • TheSybase, Inc multi-core pricing policy requires licensing Sybase software for all PHYSICAL PROCESSORS/CORES in the machine, regardless of the number of processors on which the software is installed or running.
    
    
    • Single-core machine: If a Sybase, Inc product is to be licensed on 2 single-core machines with 4 single-core processor CPU's,8 CP licenses must be purchased (2 machines x 4 cores each).
    • Multi-core machine: If anSybase, Inc. product is to be licensed on 2 multi-core machines with 4 dual-core processor CPU's, 16 CP licenses must be purchased (2 machines x 8 cores each).
    • For Sybase, Inc. products, the CPU License (CP), CPU Development & Test License (DT) and CPU Standby License (SF) all follow the multi-core policy above (all cores on the machine must be licensed).
  • The iAnywhere product multi-core pricing policy counts chips, not cores. For iAnywhere products, a chip with two or more cores is treated as a single CPU. iAnywhere products using license type CP (CPU License) count only the CPU chip as a single entity whether the CPU is multi-core or single core.


• Multi-core Scaling Coefficient:
  
  • Sybase now offers a scaling coefficient when licensing multi-core processors on specific products. The Multi-core Scaling Coefficient is applicable for both licenses and support.
  • For these multi-core eligible license types and machines, the List Price is determined by applying the Multi-core Scaling Coefficient to the License and Support price. Different scaling coefficients are offered for two classes of chip sets:
    
    • Chip Set A/25% scaling coefficient: HP-UX, IBM-AIX, , Linux on Power, Sun Solaris SPARC*
    • Chip Set B/50% scaling coefficient: Linux x86, Linux x86-64, Sun Solaris UltraSPARC T*, Sun Solaris x64, Windows
    • Sun SPARC is in both classes of chip sets. Please note that there are different catalog number for Sun Solaris SPARC (Chip Set A) and Sun Solaris UltraSPARC T (Chip Set B).
  • The multi-core scaling coefficient applies ONLY to license types related to core/processor licensing: CPU License (CP), CPU Development & Test License (DT) and CPU Standby License (SF) for the applicable products.

• Definitions:
  
  • A processor /core is the functional unit within acomputing device that interprets and executes software instructions.
  • A chip is the electronic circuitry containing one or more Cores.
  • Machines can be categorized as "single-core" or "multi-core". A "single-core" machine has one processor core per processor chip. A "multi-core" machine has two or more processor cores per processor chip
  
  

Chip License Model (machine-based) for ASE Small Business Edition and Sybase IQ Small Business Edition:  Licenses the entire machine for internal and external use.

• The number of Chip (CH), Standby Chip (SH), or Chip Development &Test (DH) licenses required for purchase is based on the number of CHIPS on the machine that the software is installed on, not the number of CORES.
• Sybase ASE Small Business Edition may only be installed on a machine that has a maximum configuration of 2 CHIPS (sockets) per the manufacturers' maximum configuration.
• Sybase IQ Small Business Edition is now limited to machines with a maximum configuration of 2 chips (also known as sockets in pricing context).  Processor:  The purchase must be 1 or more chip licenses with a maximum of 4 cores on a server machine.  If you require more than 4 cores in the machine, you must license Sybase IQ Enterprise Edition.

Networked Server/Seat Model:  The Networked model licenses a Server and Networked Seats for internal use only. 

• Server License (SR): A Server is a single machine with any number of processors (8, 16, etc).
  
  • For every machine that a copy of the software is installed on, the customer is charged one Server license (SR). A customer can have multiple copies of the same Sybase software running on the same machine, but still only require one Server license (unless the machine is partitioned.
  • The Server acts as the "base" product and must be licensed at the same time as the Networked Seat for the customer to be compliant.
  • The Server (SR) and Seats (ST) are licensed independently.
  
  
• Networked Seat License (ST):
  
  • A Networked Seatis defined as a specific identifiable, unique accessor of information such as (but not limited to) a terminal, personal computer, single user workstation, personal digital assistant ("PDA"), wireless, or real-time device.
  • Networked Seats are not tied to a specific machine and are allowed to access any licensed Sybase Server as long as the Networked Seat licenses and the Server licenses are for the same Sybase program.
  • Networked Seats are for the customer's internal use only.
  • A Networked Seat (ST) is NOT a named user license; therefore it does not count people.
  • Networked seats may access multiple servers through a networked environment and are not tied to a specific server.
  
  
  • You can have multiple copies of the same Sybase software running on the same machine, but still only require one Server license (unless the machine is partitioned).
  • The Networked Seat model requires the purchase of one Server License (SR) where a copy of the program is installed and the purchase of the required number of Networked Seat Licenses (ST).
• Standby Server (SV) License (Networked Model):
  
  • Provides the limited right to install a Standby Copy of a Program licensed under a Server (SR) license in the event of an interruption in the operation of a production copy of the same Program.
• Networked Server/Seat/Concurrent User Minimum Licensing Requirements for Sybase ASE Enterprise Edition:
  
  • The purchase of a Server License (SR) for Adaptive Server Enterprise- Enterprise Edition for use on any machine must be accompanied by the purchase of at least twenty (20) Networked Seat (ST) or Concurrent User (CU) licenses per core/processor for each core/processor contained on the machine.

Concurrent Server and User Model:  The Concurrent Model is based on a maximum number of Concurrent Users accessing a specific Server at any one point in time.

• Concurrent User License (CU):
  
  • The limited right for the maximum number of input devices (such as a terminal, personal computer, single-user workstation, PDA, wireless device or real time device) to directly or indirectly access the Program on a single licensed Server at any given instant in time.
  
  
  • Concurrent Users are the devices licensed to access the program.
  • Accessing is defined as the number of concurrent Users logged on to the Server; it is not dependent on whether a User is actively working or running queries.
  • For internal users only.
• Standby Concurrent User (SC):
  
  • Providesthe limited right to access and use a Standby Copy of a Program for a number of users equal to the number of Concurrent User (CU) licenses purchased, in the event of an interruption of a production copy of the same program. Each Concurrent User may only access a single, identifiable Standby Copy.
• Networked Server/Seat/Concurrent User Minimum Licensing Requirements for Sybase ASE Enterprise Edition: 
  
  
  • The purchase of a Server License (SR) for Adaptive Server Enterprise- Enterprise Edition for use on any machine must be accompanied by the purchase of at least twenty (20) Networked Seat (ST) or Concurrent User (CU) licenses per core/processor for each core/processor contained on the machine.

Standalone Seat License (SS):

• A Standalone Seat (SS) license permits use of a copy of the Program for creation of applications on one Seat - a single workstation on which it resides. Other Seats or workstations are not permitted to use the development tool components.

Floating User License (FL):

• With the Floating User (FL) license, any number of workstations may be installed with the product. However, at any given time, the total number of simultaneous users cannot exceed the number of licenses purchased. The Floating User license is onlyavailable for use with PowerDesigner/PowerAMC.
