I have a large table with 13 millions rows of records, with one non-clustered index REF_DATA_IDX on REF_DATA.
However, when try to delete portion of the rows, Error 1204 (Running out of LOCKS) occurs.

delete from DBSample..LARGE_TABLE where REF_DATA = 123

What is the best way to perform deletion from a large table?

I want to create a script/alert that will inform me which one of tables need de-fragment/index rebuild.
Do you believe that i can define a threshold, based on relation between size,reserved,unused (sp_spaceused output )
Any other suggestions ;

Below are th new permissions on a user Table that can be assigned to individual users, groups of users, and roles in Sybase ASE 15.0.

update statistics, delete statistics, truncate table

Note:Not sure this exists in 12.5.1.I see this in 15.0
